Peter Lundberg
Peter Lundberg has been the Director of Janus Galleries since 1985, with the mission of helping individuals, businesses and museums build collections of fine art, as well as promoting philanthropy through art.
After graduating from the UW Madison, Peter founded and operated Gulliver’s Travels (a travel agency) for 20 years, where he befriended many who became life-long friends. It was through his travels that he developed his passion for fine art.
Peter is a dedicated advocate for many non-profits in the Madison community and beyond. With his wife Jill, and through the gallery, they support more than 100 non- profits with financial and in-kind gifts every year. Janus Galleries annually donates art for entire buildings, with recent projects including the new Hamel Music Center, The Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra building, and the new Black Business Hub, all 2024 recipients.
Peter is the Chair of the UW School of Music Board, the Vice-Chair and Development Chair of the Wisconsin Public Radio Board, and sits on the Madison Opera Board, the Literacy Network Development Committee, the Agrace Hospice Quality Control Committee, the Madison Community Foundation Donor Relations Committee and the Aldo Leopold Nature Center Development Committee. He served multiple terms on the boards of Agrace Hospice, the Madison Community Foundation, (also chairing the Grants Committee) and served as President of the UW Friends of the Geology Museum, the Partners of America board. He is also on his neighborhood board and served 12 years as president.
Peter has been an active volunteer with many local non-profits, as a Big Brother in Big Brothers/Sisters of Dane County, a 24 year patient volunteer and gardener with Agrace Hospice, and has pounded nails with Habitat for Humanity. Active in fundraising and capital campaigns, Peter currently assists with five local capital campaigns, and is a consultant for several others.
Acknowledgements for community service include Madison Community Foundation’s Asset Builder Award, Association of Fundraising Professionals “Outstanding Individual Philanthropist” award in 2004, and AFP’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” in 2023. Outside of the worlds of art and philanthropy, Peter enjoys oil painting, running and triathlons, and is a recorded jazz pianist. He had a decade-long stint as an arts columnist with ANEW and Brava magazine. He is an avid vegetable gardener, still trying to co-exist with rabbits!
